Preserving History with Craft, Care & Precision

Heritage building conservation and restoration across the North West of England.

About Stonehive

Stonehive Conservation & Restoration is a specialist heritage construction company dedicated to the careful conservation and restoration of historic and listed buildings. Rooted in traditional materials and craftsmanship — and guided by modern standards of project delivery, quality, and safety — Stonehive’s approach balances precision, integrity, and respect for the architectural past. We work closely with conservation professionals, architects, trusts, and private clients to protect the character, structure, and legacy of Britain’s built heritage.

Every project is more than construction — it’s the continuation of history, place, and skilled tradition.

Our Services

Structural Timber, Masonry & Terracotta Repair

We carry out sensitive repair and maintenance of structural timber, masonry, and terracotta elements, using methods that stabilise the building while preserving historic fabric. Our approach combines traditional craftsmanship with modern diagnostic techniques to ensure long-lasting, context-appropriate results.

Historic Building Surveys & Condition Reports

Our detailed surveys and condition reports provide clear, reliable insight into the condition of historic buildings. These assessments inform conservation strategies, ensuring that repair decisions are well-guided, proportionate, and aligned with best practice.

End-to-End Project Delivery

Stonehive manages heritage projects from initial consultation through to completion, coordinating all phases with care, transparency, and technical expertise. Our structured approach supports property owners, conservation trusts, architects, and main contractors in achieving high-quality, conservation-led outcomes.

Sustainability, Craftsmanship & Leadership in Every Phase

Sustainability and traditional craftsmanship are integrated into each stage of our work, from initial assessment to final detailing. Strong leadership, clear communication, and meticulous quality control underpin our commitment to responsible and enduring heritage conservation.

Superheated Steam Cleaning Services

Our superheated steam cleaning method uses a specialist low-pressure, high-temperature system to gently remove dirt, biological growth, and surface contaminants without damaging the underlying material. Heating water to around 150°C at the nozzle, this approach delivers precise, conservation-safe cleaning for even the most sensitive and historic surfaces.

Highly effective for stone, brick, terracotta, render, roofs, monuments, sculptures and external pathways, the technique is trusted by conservation specialists for removing algae, moss, fungi, pollution deposits and graffiti. This service restores the appearance of heritage buildings with minimal intervention and maximum respect for original materials.

Stone Façade Conservation, Specialist Joinery, Leadwork & Roofing

From stone façade conservation to bespoke joinery, leadwork, roofing and heritage detailing, we deliver specialist interventions that protect and enhance the architectural integrity of historic structures. Every repair is undertaken with precision, using compatible materials and time-honoured techniques.

Planning, Listed Building Consent & Conservation Advice

We offer expert advice on planning requirements, listed building consent, and conservation legislation. By guiding clients through often complex regulatory processes, we help ensure that proposals are both compliant and sympathetic to heritage values.

Collaborative Partnerships

We work closely with conservation officers, architects, heritage consultants, and statutory bodies to deliver informed and coordinated conservation solutions. This collaborative approach ensures that every project respects historic significance while meeting contemporary needs.

Heritage Window Restoration, Replacement & Conservation Reporting

We provide a comprehensive service for heritage windows, ranging from sympathetic restoration to complete like-for-like replacement where required. Each window is individually assessed to determine the most appropriate conservation approach, ensuring all work respects the original design, materials and architectural character of the building.

Alongside practical restoration, we deliver detailed surveys, condition reports and heritage assessments that offer reliable insight into the condition and performance of period windows within historic and listed buildings. These reports support informed, proportionate decision-making and ensure all work aligns with conservation best practice and statutory requirements.

From delicate timber repairs to full window replication and formal restoration reporting, we provide tailored solutions that safeguard the heritage value, longevity and aesthetic integrity of your property.
